Lahore, Literature and Culture

Lahore was once a center of literature. Rudyard Kipling worked there in newspaper and wrote fascinating stories like "The Jungle Book". Many other prominent poets composed poetry and writers wrote there.

Culture and literature flourished together in the city of Lahore during the early years of the 20th century. Not only Punjabi but English and Urdu languages were also developed. Literature and culture brings civility to a city. Lahore remained a city of poets and writers till it lost its lights of literature and culture in the second half of the 20th century. It was a big loss culturally.

It is said that ancient name of Lahore was "Ravawar" because it was located near the river Ravi. During the centuries, it changed to "Lahore". Whether it was "Ravawar" or any other word from which the word "Lahore" was derived, the city of Lahore and river Ravi are still together.
